What is a Variable Reluctance Resolver (VRR)

The variable reluctance resolver is an innovative high-precision angular position sensor known for its simple structure, reliable operation, and high-speed capabilities. It offers a distinct advantage over traditional brushless resolvers with its unique working principle and design.


Differences from Common Brushless Resolvers

Unlike common brushless resolvers with a uniform air gap, the variable reluctance resolver calculates the rotor angle position based on the sinusoidal variation in air gap permeability caused by the rotor's salient pole effect. The resolver's signal and excitation windings are fixed to the stator, while the rotor consists of selected toothed pieces without any windings, achieving non-contact operation.


Unique Structure

Exciting winding, output winding, and sinusoidal winding are all rotors arranged in the stator core grooves. The rotor is composed solely of toothed pieces, eliminating the need for windings. Both output and input windings are densely wound with varying numbers of turns following the sinusoidal law.
