Working Principle

The operation of the variable reluctance resolver is based on the spatial air-gap permeability changes as the rotor rotates relative to the stator. Each cycle of permeability change corresponds to a pitch rotation of the rotor, and multiple cycles occur with each revolution. These changes in air-gap permeability lead to variations in mutual inductance between the input and output windings, resulting in induced potential changes in the output winding.
