Working Principle

Brushless Resolver: The rotor angle position is calculated by the relative position change between the rotor signal winding and the stator excitation winding. Its working principle is to use the magnetic field generated by the electric current in the windings to interact with the magnetic field of the permanent magnet and generate a magnetic field through the windings.

Variable Reluctance Resolver: the output signal changes by using the change of air gap reluctance, and according to the principle of electromagnetic induction, the induced voltage of the output winding changes with the mechanical rotation angle by using the air gap change and the change of magnetoresistance.


Structural features

Brushless Resolver: The principle of reformation of sinusoidally distributed windings is usually used to theoretically derive and design the stator and rotor windings.

Variable Reluctance Resolver: no coupling transformer, no brush, no contact structure, with simple structure, low cost, low environmental requirements, easy to realize the integration of transmission system and so on. Both the excitation and output windings are placed in the stator slot of the motor, and the rotor is made up of only selected toothed plates.


Advantages and disadvantages

Brushless Resolver: high precision, but complex structure and higher cost.

Variable Reluctance Resolver: simple structure, low cost, strong anti-interference ability, but relatively lower accuracy.

Variable Reluctance Resolver: Due to its simple structure, low cost, strong anti-interference ability and other advantages, it is widely used in electric motorcycles, automotive electronic power steering EPS, CNC systems and other fields.
