What is a VR Resolver?

A VR Resolver is a position sensor, which can accurately detect the position, direction and speed of the rotor, and is used to detect the direction and speed of the drive motor or generator (recycled energy). 


Features of VR Resolvers

The VR resolver is used in the drive motor of electric vehicles, which is a special form of resolver, which uses the principle of magnetoresistance to realize the conversion between electrical signals.

The simple structure and extremely small size of the occupied space are all fixed on the stator stage, and the excitation winding, sine winding and cosine winding are fixed.

The windings of the primary and secondary sides are placed in different slots of the stator of the motor, and they are fixed without rotating. The primary winding is an excitation winding with a sinusoidal excitation current, while the secondary side is a two-phase coil that generates an output signal.

The brushless structure greatly improves the reliability of the system, and the anti-interference ability is better, which is more suitable for the various requirements of the vehicle for motor drive.


Working Principle

After the excitation coil is passed into the excitation voltage of the sinusoidal curve, the alternating magnetic field generated around the excitation coil acts on the rotor disk, and the rotor disk directs the magnetic flux of the alternating magnetic field to the receiving coil, and the receiving coil will induce an alternating voltage, which is proportional to the position of the rotor disk, and there is a phase difference with the excitation voltage.


Control strategies for VR Resolvers

When the motor rotor and the resolver rotor rotate together, the resolver rotor rotates through the stator coil, which changes the magnetic flux between the stator coil and the rotor, so that the sinusoidal winding and the cosine winding receive the excitation winding induction, and the signal amplitude changes to a certain extent, showing a sine and cosine waveform. The amplitude and phase of the waveform change with the change of the resolver rotor (which rotates at the same time as the motor rotor), so the position, speed, and direction of the motor rotor can be accurately determined.
